Nicola Nuttall Sturdy By Design Ambassador

My name is Nicolla Nuttall and I am thrilled to be a Brand ambassador for Sturdy by Design, I want kit which can take me from yoga classes to running out on the hills and fells. I love the fit, the comfort and especially the designs. Sturdy by Design leggings are stunning, the perfect combination of style and function.

Never a sporty child, i’d grown in to a pretty unfit adult. With 2 children and a business to run I was always able to find an excuse not to exercise but a spur of the moment decision aged 39 to enter the Great North Run meant that I had to get my act together and my trainers on.

Fast forward 6 months, I absolutely loved the GNR and immediately entered my first marathon (aged 40) to see if I was capable of taking on the full 26.2 miles. The Brathay Windermere marathon was a huge challenge but it turned out I loved that too.  I was astounded that my finish time qualified me for a ‘Good For Age’ London Marathon entry and oh my goodness I was hooked!

The next challenge I set myself was to complete the Abbot World Major Marathon series. This was  going to involve a lot of saving up and a lot of travelling as the 6 marathon series included…London, Berlin, Chicago, Boston, New York and Tokyo. It took me 7 years but I did it, finishing the challenge in Tokyo in February 2017 and receiving the coveted 6 Star Medal.

Guinness World Record

So what next.. how about a Guinness World Record? after a failed attempt in 2016 (due to a skirt length technicality) I rocked up at the Virgin London marathon in April to officially attempt the record for the Fastest Marathon dressed as a witch. This meant running in a full length dress complete with cape, pointy hat and of course, a broom.  It was second time lucky for me and I’m now the proud holder of an official world record

In 2017 I was also lucky enough to finish in the top 5 in my Vet 45 age group at the Manchester marathon with a time of 3:09. This qualified me to run for England in the marathon masters event at the Chester Marathon. Wearing an England vest was an incredible honour for me, I was hugely proud to run with such fantastic athletes of all ages.

This year I also took on the ‘Race To the Stones’ event and finished 1st female across the 2 day ultra marathon; 100 km over 2 days along the beautiful Ridgeway from Lewknor in Oxfordshire across the North Wessex Downs to the stone circle at Avebury.

I’m a regular parkrunner, usually with my 4 legged running partner Ziggy or as part of the volunteering team, I try to complement my running with core work and take pilates and yoga classes a couple of times each week.

In 2018 I’ll be running my 18th marathon in London as I’ve met the qualification time for a championship place for the first time and I’m also planning to take part in the Montane Lakeland 50, a 1 day 50 mile event up and down the mountains of the Lake District; my biggest challenge yet.

Becoming a runner and joining a club (Trawden AC) has changed my life, Whatever the weather, and whatever mood I’m in, I always feel better after a run, I love the head space, the thinking time and just being outdoors. Someone wiser than me said,’There’s no such thing as bad weather, just unsuitable clothing’

Sturdy By Design Ambassador Program

At Sturdy By Design we understand that there is no better way to get genuine feedback on a product than from someone with experience.

Our Ambassadors are used to training hard and can easily tell you a good pair of leggings from a bad pair so we’re very proud that they are confident enough in our products to take on the positions of a Sturdy By Design Ambassador.
